The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Executive Board has adjusted the high school sport seasons for the 2020-21 school year. Traditional high school fall sports will now be considered Season 1. Leagues have the option to petition the WIAA to adjust sports seasons and offerings based upon local needs.
Federal Way Public Schools is part of the North Puget Sound League (NPSL) who recommended league superintendents delay the start of Season 1 to a later date, in accordance with the Public Health Seattle King County and Governor guidelines. This date has yet to be determined. The later start date allows students an opportunity to participate in conditioning activities in pods, then transition into a sport specific workout prior to the start of the identified NPSL Season 1.
Federal Way Public Schools is building out its model to safely restart face-to-face learning and return to athletics. The district is paying close attention to the COVID-19 rates in the region and working in partnership with other districts in the NPSL to establish the exact start date, safety protocols, etc. We will communicate when the district will start Season 1 as soon as this information is available.
